Drilling Operations Support

Increasingly, deepwater fields are being developed using remote subsea well complexes and  connected via subsea fiber optic networks to control and monitor drilling and production operations distributed throughout the field. For connected fields, future drilling operations will be able to make use of subsea fiber connections via wet-mateable fiber optic connections.

The ability for drilling operations to connect into a fiber backbone during development drilling cycles and, in some cases, during the exploratory drilling phase represents a substantial opportunity to evolve and improve offshore drilling operations in terms of safety, efficiency, and effectiveness. To enable rapid, low-cost fiber connections for mobile drilling assets, a patented portable dynamic riser will be employed on the Poseidon system.
